Why Declutter?
I’m sure that most of us would view home as a place of sanctuary for us and others, but how many of us actually feel that sense of calm and peace as we walk through the door?
With the fast pace of life and all that we try to do with our time, we can easily neglect the one place that can help to create a sense of calm and rest. When we live with too much clutter around us, not only does it take up more of our time, energy and physical space as we attempt to keep on top of it, but it also effects the space in our minds. You’ve heard the phrase, ‘tidy house, tidy mind’ well I do believe it to be true. When we are in a room that isn’t overcrowded with visual clutter, our minds can be more focused on those we are spending time with. Then we aren’t inwardly panicking or ‘tidying up’ in our heads, or are concerned with all the ‘to dos’ we still have to think about. We can be present. Also the room itself then achieves it’s purpose. It’s not trying to be all things for everyone, but in having more of a structure to where things go and only having the things you use around you, rooms can make more sense.
I don’t think that our houses should become idols or obsessions, with a constant sense of dissatisfaction with what they are like, instead I do believe that in reducing the amount that we own, we can enjoy what we do have more and have more inclination to share this space with others.
There are many different benefits to decluttering that I would like to reflect on further in future articles, but just for now, I would invite you to take a look around your home. Does it create in you a sense of peace or overwhelm? Do you feel like life is constantly a cycle of trying to find lost items or closing doors on busy rooms because it’s too overwhelming to face them?
I want to encourage you that this can change!
Implementing some simple systems and changing the way we view ‘stuff’ and our homes, can help us to maximise their potential and create spaces that are welcoming, calm and that enable us to be able to reconnect with what matters, the people who are around us.
It’s not about achieving perfection or spending vast amounts of money on home improvements, rather by looking at what we actually need and use rather than holding on to all we have, we can bring order to our homes and help them to be places of welcome.
I would love to help you on this journey, so if you feel that you could do with some extra motivation and another physical pair of hands, I would be delighted to help. Please contact me via email or text (see my details and prices in the ‘'Prices/terms’ section) and we can arrange a free consultation to begin your journey to less = more!
You will not regret this decision to declutter and I hope that I can be a springboard for you towards a lifetime of having a healthy relationship with ‘stuff’ and its place in your home.
